Comment from Rebecca DeSantis:

My husband and I found out we were moving to Goldsboro and Seymour Johnson Air Force Base in November '04. In January ‘05 we came to visit some friends who were stationed here and we also wanted to check out the area. One of our first stops was the Family Support Center. My husband and I spoke to Mrs. Ollie Foster and she gave me the information about Employment Connection. As soon as we returned home, I completed the user profile and on-line resume. I checked the Employment Connection website every week and that is how I found out about the Wayne County School District Teacher Job Fair. I flew up for the weekend to go to the job fair and I made many crucial contacts. I spoke with several principals in Goldsboro while I was still in Mississippi waiting to move. I had interviews set up the week that I arrived. I arrived in Goldsboro on Saturday, June 11 and I went to an interview on Monday, June 13. I was offered a job that day by a princi! pal whom I had met at the job fair.

Employment Connection proved to be a helpful website packed full of information for anyone moving to the area.

It Is Always Too Soon To Give Up!

This was not my motto in the beginning but rather the lesson I learned at the end. My job search began at the Human Resources Department at Family Services. Upon meeting Ms Ollie Foster and discussing my employment capabilities and background, I was met with enthusiasm and confidence that a job would present itself that matched my profile. However, in the beginning, I was not a believer!

From the onset, I planned on compromising. Learn clerical, learn secretarial, and forget about my lifetime pursuit and passion for graphic design, the advertising industry and the arts. I knew Goldsboro was a small town and I felt I needed to be realistic and begin preparing myself for the inevitable.

My one constant was that I held a firm belief in prayer. I believed that if I prayed and asked for God to open the door where He wanted me and close all the rest, than I would have peace wherever I went to work.

Within a short period of time I was placed in a clerical position by a temporary agency in town. I worked the job faithfully and with excellence for five months. I kept in touch with Ms Foster and she periodically sent me on interviews that were more suited to fulfilling my career goals. I posted my resume on The Employment Connection website. Even more valuable than all of that, I continued to receive encouragement not to give up.

Just recently, I received and accepted a job offer with a large firm in Goldsboro to pioneer a graphics department for their company. A job description written just for me! The offer came one week before I was to be hired permanently in the temporary job that I had held. I may not have qualified for this new position if I had not been working in that arena. Although I will be doing graphics, clerical abilities are a primary requirement. So this was my perfect fit!

As for me, I believe that the Lord is my main resource and ultimate HR person, but I have to say, that His representatives in HR at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base did an out of this world job as well!

Remember, it's always too soon to give up!
